We strongly believe that people have the right to live in dignity,
which includes the right to sufficient, safe, accessible and
affordable water. Having access to clean water will empower
people to take control of their lives and build their own future.
'Access to clean and safe drinking water for everyone, everywhere.'
In 2010, through Resolution 64/292, the United Nations declared
access to clean drinking water and sanitation to be a basic human
right. However, 663 million people still lack accessto an improved
source of drinking water and 2.4 billion people still lack access to
improved sanitation. We want to change this.
Our mission is to increase access to clean and safe drinking water
worldwide. We do this through supporting projects with
a focus on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
How it all began
The Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation originated from the brand 'Marie-Stella-Maris'. This is an Amsterdam-based lifestyle brand, founded by Patrick Munsters, that donates a fixed amount per product sold towards clean drinking water projects.
The Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation evolved out of new opportunities to increase its contribution to clean drinking water projects. "What a shame it is that there are people who want to contribute more, but that your business is not organised properly to receive and invest donations," Munsters said. Hence the Foundation was named after the social lifestyle brand where it all began.
The Marie-Stella-Maris Foundation has a Board consisting of four members; there are no paid Foundation employees. We are very proud that all board members mentioned below are voluntarily willing to contribute their time, knowledge and expertise to the Foundation.
